Moeraki Earrings – One of a Kind

Moeraki Earrings – One of a Kind
Moeraki Earrings — One of a Kind
There is only one pair in existence. These earrings will never be repeated.
Finalists in the 2019 Australian Jewellery Design Awards, the Moeraki Earrings are inspired by the ancient, spherical Moeraki Boulders revealed by the receding tide at Koekohe Beach, north of Dunedin. Their quiet permanence and natural symmetry are captured in jet-black spinels, set in platinum and surrounded by an array of diamonds, echoing these enigmatic forms resting within the ebbing tide.
According to Māori legend, these boulders are the gourds and calabashes washed ashore when the Araiteuru waka was wrecked centuries ago. This narrative of journey, loss and arrival is embodied in the design, transforming landscape and legend into wearable art.
