Our Second Cut™ Process
Second Cut™ Champagne Diamonds — Bringing Hidden Beauty to Light
Historically, champagne, cognac, and desert diamonds were considered the quieter cousins of traditional white diamonds. While admired for their rich, earthy tones and natural warmth, they were often cut with less precision and care. Diamond cutters prioritised white stones, where market demand was stronger and the reward for maximising brilliance was greater.
As a result, champagne diamonds, despite their beautiful hues of brown and golden tones were often fashioned with less refinement. Their light performance could appear subdued, softer, and at times lacking the vitality seen in well-cut white diamonds.
And yet, within these stones, there has always been untapped potential, waiting to be revealed.
At Holland & Co, we have long been drawn to the warmth and individuality of these diamonds, using them selectively when we found stones compelling enough to feature in our work, though such stones were few and far between.
So we set out to explore how a more refined and intentional approach to cutting could unlock their true beauty.
Within the tones of champagne and cognac diamonds lies a natural warmth. When paired with high clarity, this potential becomes compelling, and when properly revealed, it can transform the entire character of the stone.
This led to the development of our Second Cut™ process.
Our Second Cut™ Champagne diamonds undergo a specialised re-cutting process, carefully refined to enhance brilliance and optimise light performance. Each stone is selected for its unique colour, and must meet our strict clarity standards of SI1 and above. Only then is it precisely re-faceted, allowing light to move through the diamond and return to the eye.
What emerges is a brighter, more distinctive and expressive stone, alive with scintillation and warmth. The natural colour remains, but it is no longer subdued. Instead, it becomes more dynamic and full of life.
Throughout my career, I have always been drawn to what others might overlook, the quiet potential within a stone, a shape, or an idea. In many ways, this is what my clients value: not simply the finished piece, but the feeling of being understood, and of something meaningful being revealed as part of a unique and personal journey.
Second Cut™ is an extension of that philosophy.
A way of seeing differently, a way of revealing what was always there.
